  • Freedom from Religion Found., Inc. v. New Kensington-Arnold Sch. Dist., 118 F. Supp. 3d 821, 326 Ed. Law Rep. 274 (W.D. Pa. 2015) (associate attorney on this successful motion for summary judgment in this phase of the litigation) (see related news, Ten Commandments Lawsuit)

  • Albert Gallatin Area School District, et al. v. The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, No. 442 of 2012, GD (Court of Common Pleas of Fayette County, Pennsylvania) (associate attorney on numerous depositions, discovery, and briefs, that obtained class certification in this class action lawsuit representing over 300 school districts in Pennsylvania. Lead counsel settled the case the day before trial with some school districts receiving six figure settlements)

  • Vargas v. GNC General Nutrition Centers, Inc., 2012 W.L. 3544733 (W.D. Pa. Aug. 16, 2012) (associate attorney on this case which obtained successful results for class action plaintiffs involving a de facto policy against overtime)

Amie Thompson, Esquire 

SUMMARY

Ms. Thompson is the founder of The Pittsburgh Litigator, PLLC. She is a respected attorney who is dedicated to helping clients through all aspects of the legal process. As an experienced litigator with a focus on complex litigation, Ms. Thompson often resolves issues that are high-conflict.

Ms. Thompson is committed to resolving client matters in a cost effective and efficient manner. She assists clients in making settlement decisions and understanding their options. While comfortable engaging in settlement discussions where possible, she frequently litigates matters in court and takes pride in her reputation as a committed advocate for her clients.

Ms. Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and pre-law studies from The University of Pittsburgh (magna cum laude, 2006) and a Juris Doctor degree from The Duquesne University School of Law (cum laude, 2010). In law school, she served as a member of the Law Review and Executive Editor of the Business Law Journal. She has authored several publications in her field. She also received a Certificate of Distinction for Meritorious Services Rendered to the Civil Rights Litigation Clinic and an award for Outstanding Oral Argument. 

Ms. Thompson is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She has handled numerous appeals in federal court, as well as the Commonwealth, Superior and Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania. She has experience in litigation and appellate practice in civil, family, and orphans’ court divisions. She currently practices law in several counties, including Allegheny, Westmoreland, Butler and Armstrong. She is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association, which covers the second largest county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
